THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN PLYWOOD, MDF, BP AND HDF

Many varieties of industrial wood, such as PB, Plywood, MDF, HDF, etc., are currently available on the market and have a variety of properties. Each type is best suited to the manufacture of specific items. To comprehend each type, we must first know the concept of each one.

1. What is MDF?

One of the most popular types of wood on the market today is MDF. This is an abbreviation of Medium Density Fiberboard, which is the common name for medium density fiberboard. MDF is made from materials such as wood pulp, glue, and a number of compounds such as paraffin, hardener, wood protection agent against termites, ... Normally, MDF is often used for furniture  such as tables and chairs, wardrobes, ...The advantage of MDF is its compactness, while the disadvantage of this material is its short lifespan.

2. What is HDF?

Meanwhile, HDF also has many similarities with MDF. This type of plywood stands for High-Density Fiberboard. This type of board is carefully processed with many complex stages. Because of the careful processing, HDF have better durability and quality of HDF. The wood part in HDF is also quite high compared to MDF. The cost of HDF is also quite higher than the current level.

3. What is PB?

Another very popular material is PB plywood, also known as Particle Board. This is kind of building material or commonly known as Okal Board. Wood panels are artificially produced based on materials such as forest wood (acacia, eucalytus, rubber,...). The way to create this material is as follow : put the wood in the machine to be crushed into chips, then mixed with glue and pressed to different standards and thicknesses.
This type of board is usually covered with layer of Melamine or Acrylic but when peeled off will reveal crushed wood chips. Particle Board has wood colors such as yeallow, brown. The moisture-resistant boards are usually blue.
This material also has some characteristics such as low cost, certain hardness and high strength. It also has a good grip on screws. The disadvantage of this type of wood is its lower bearing capacity than other materials.

4. What is plywood?

The different between HDF, MDF, BP and Plywood
Plywood is one of the most popular materials in the market. Plywood is made by joining many thin layers of wood call veneer about 1mm thick of equal size.
These woods are then stacked and fitted together and then pressed at high tempurates to form a solid surface.
There are types of specialized glue that are frequently use to create plywood to make it durable and moisture-resistant. The number of veneers must be odd, depending on the thickness of the wood board, using 3, 5, 7 or 9 layers of wood to form. The reason for this is to create a core layer in the middle of the wood, the two layers of wood outside the core layer will have same grain direction. The outer vein direction will be arranged perpendicualrtly to increase the bearing capacity as well as prevent warping and damage.

The advange of plywood is that very high hardness and durability, good water resistance. The sanding and painting time is quick, the price of Plywood is also quite cheap compared to the hardness and persistance of the material.

5. The differences between Plywood and other PB, MDF, HDF

Each type of wood has different characteristics compared the other products. MDF, HDF, PB and plywood are comonly used in residential furniture, living room furniture and interior decoration, etc.
Talking about the durability between Plywood and MDF, HDF and PB, Plywood is more appriciated because there is a greater percentage of wood.
If you just need a basic piece of furniture with a variety of colors and affordable price, then MDF and HDF is the right choice, but if you want your home to have better quality, then plywood will be very suitable.
Plywood has a higher water resistance and moisture as well as smooth surface so it can be use both inside and outside the house. On the other hand, MDF and HDF can be used in the area like living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, offices and floors, ... In fact, plywood have more usage in the real life than other kind of wood. For example, plywood can be used as a construction material, packing material and decorative material also.
